Russell Wilson states he expects to start after New York Giants signing

Russell Wilson has signed his contract with the New York Giants and is ready to do big things with the franchise this fall. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Wilson said he expects to be the starting quarterback.
“Yeah, I expect to be the starter and come in here and be ready to rock and roll every day,” Wilson said in his introductory news conference, per Pro Football Talk. “To be able to lead. I think this team is looking for someone to lead them in every way in terms of the process in the offseason, during the season, our habits and our thought process and how we create a great winning culture and how to continue to establish that and really build on the things we do well and the things that we continue to need to do.
“I think the big part of me is this will be my 14th year to be able to lead an amazing group of men that really have big hopes and goals and dreams and desires, and we all share the same goal. So, I think that’s the best part about it is I get to be around a lot of extremely, extremely talented guys.”
Can Russell Wilson get back on track with the Giants?
It was reported that Wilson’s one-year contract is worth $10.5 million and “includes a complicated incentive package that can be worth up to $7.5M more based on a variety of play-time, performance & playoff incentives,” per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Wilson joins a quarterback room that includes Tommy DeVito and Jameis Winston, who signed with the team earlier this month.

Wilson joins the Giants after spending the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent the first part of the year inactive due to a calf injury and made his debut in Week 7. After going 6-1 in his first sevent starts, Wilson and the Steelers ended the 2024 season on a five-game losing streak. And during that rough stretch, the Super Bowl champion quarterback threw just six touchdown passes and was sacked 18 times.
Russell Wilson spent his first 10 NFL years with the Seattle Seahawks and led the team to a Super Bowl win during the 2013 season. He joined the Denver Broncos in 2022 and was there for two years.
