Russell Wilson injury update: Steelers release Wednesday practice report
The Pittsburgh Steelers released their first injury report for the Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, and the status of Russell Wilson has been revealed. The Super Bowl champion quarterback was limited in practice on Wednesday due to his injured calf. He is one of 13 players listed on the injury report.
Wilson has yet to see any action this season because of his injury. Justin Fields has taken over and has led the team to a 3-0 start. In the three games, Fields has completed 73.3 percent of his passes while throwing for 518 yards, two touchdowns and one interception with a 95.3 passer rating.
On Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Fields will start on Sunday vs. the Colts. “(We’re) still very much in the same place with Russ this week as we were last week, at least at the beginning of the week,” Tomlin told reporters, per the Steelers’ official website. “I just met with him and the athletic trainer talked about what tomorrow looks like. (Wednesday) is a limited participation day from a scheduling perspective. He had a good workout today. We’ll see how he feels in the morning, but I’m not expecting him to be a full participant tomorrow.
“As we walk in the building tomorrow I want Justin singularly focused on starting for us and doing what’s required to be ready to do that.”

Will Russell Wilson start when he recovers from injury?
Tomlin also talked about deciding who the starting QB will be when Russell Wilson is healthy. “Sometimes in this business, there’s a myriad of complex decisions that need to be made. I’ve learned to make them when it’s appropriate. And it’s not necessary as we sit here right now,” Tomlin said. “When Russ gets to an appropriate point of health and we have a decision to make, I’ll make it and I’ll announce it and I’ll be really transparent about it. But until then … I’ve got no intentions of making the decision that’s unnecessary at this juncture.”
Another big reason for the Steelers’ success in the early stages of the season is their defense. The team has allowed just 26 points in three games, and edge rusher T.J. Watt has led the way with five tackles for loss and three sacks. The Steelers will look to go 4-0 on Sunday against a Colts team that is coming off a 21-16 victory over the Chicago Bears.
