Tommy Baldwin, the competition director for Rick Ware Racing (RWR), is showing his support for Rick Ware amid the lawsuit with Legacy Motor Club. On the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Baldwin reacted to Legacy Motor Club suing RWR for backing out of a signed agreement to sell one of its charters.

“This is a tough one,” Baldwin said. “This goes back to just the way I feel our sport should be run off as integrity,” Tommy Baldwin said. “The thing that hurts is they come out and they’ve said a lot of bad things about Rick Ware. I’m here to tell you you can say all you want about what goes on on the track of the things we’re trying to do, but I’m here to tell you Rick Ware is not any one of those things as a person, as an individual, as a father, as a family member, as what they’re making him out to be.

Tommy Baldwin says he will ‘fight for Rick Ware’

“It’s heartbreaking to have to see him go through all this. I was sick, I was hurting with cancer, and I was out for six-eight months. That man took care of me, that man paid me, that man checked on me. That’s Rick Ware, that’s the guy he is. He has worked his ass off to be in this position to be able to sell a charter and live the rest of his life the way he need to live. He deserves that. Shame on me for not having the balls as he did, as much as he has not waiting to sell mine. …I will fight for Rick Ware as much as I will fight for anybody right now because that is not Rick Ware.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Charlotte. RWR and Legacy reached an agreement in March to sell the charter. But Legacy is now claiming that RWR is attempting to back out of the deal.

“Despite having a binding deal in place, RWR (Rick Ware Racing) wants to back out,” said Legacy in the complaint. “It has told Legacy that it will not, under any circumstances, close the parties’ transaction. Legacy has tried to talk sense into RWR, to no avail. Legacy’s patience has run out. It now brings this suit to enforce its rights and hold RWR to its deal.”
