Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott are good friends off the track. Today at Homestead-Miami, not so much, especially after this pit stop. The two NASCAR champions almost collided on pit road. Blaney is blaming Elliott for it.

As the Cup Series field made pit stops after Stage 2 ended, Ryan Blaney had an issue. Chase Elliott pulled out of his stall and Blaney had to swerve right to avoid hitting the No. 9. Both drivers did their best not to make contact. Blaney got the worst of it.

Always known to be fiery on the radio, Blaney was fired up once again. He said “I get absolutely destroyed by the 9,” over the radio, according to Kelly Crandall of RACER.com.

When Blaney got back on the track, Crandall noted, he drove up alongside Elliott. He either said something or told him he was #1. I’m sure those two will talk later. Probably after they leave Miami.

Elliott did receive a penalty, but not for the Blaney incident. He was penalized for not entering pit road single file. That cost him plenty of spots.

Jeff Gluck of The Athletic tweeted out some of Chase’s radio. “There was zero advantage there. I was simply not trying to hit the guy. I don’t know what to do any different.”

A run-in with Ryan Blaney and then penalized for how he entered pit road. When it was all over, a tough break for Chase Elliott to start the final stage.

Ryan Blaney suffers another engine failure

For the third week in a row, Ryan Blaney has a DNF result. That is the first time in his Cup Series career he has had three straight DNFs. It was once again an engine failure, the same issue that took him out at Phoenix.

Blaney was not as frustrated on the radio as he was at Phoenix. He did lead 124 laps this evening. Blaney had perhaps the best car on the track and was the favorite to win. As he was running P3 after the Stage 3 restart, his engine gave out.

A big cloud of smoke and Blaney was out of the race. He thanked his team for the fast car and accepted his result more or less. With fast cars each week, he knows his time will come. It is still early in the year.

Alex Bowman and Bubba Wallace have been battling late in this race. It looks like the 48 is going to get it done barring a late race restart. The drama is building at Homestead-Miami.
