On his media rounds, Ryan Blaney made a stop to talk with Marty & McGee on SEC Network, the NASCAR champion had some college football opinions to share. Despite living in North Carolina and growing up in North Carolina, Blaney isn’t an ACC or SEC football fan.

No, Ryan Blaney is a Buckeye! Blaney was born in Ohio and has a lot of Ohio ties. That includes his sports fandoms, for the most part.

The NASCAR driver went onto the SEC Network. Surprisingly he gave a plug to the Ohio State Buckeyes, which feels a little sacrilegious.

At least Blaney watches football, a lot of drivers just stick to racing.

“I watch a lot of football, college, NFL,” Blaney said. “I’m from Ohio, so I’m a Buckeye fan and I watch the Browns and the Bengals periodically, and I’ll go to some Panthers games just because I live in Charlotte. I enjoy watching other professional athletes do their job, right? Because you have a huge appreciation for how much they put into it because you know how much you put into your sport or professional job. So. it’s always nice to kind of seeing that stuff and maybe talking to some athletes of ‘Hey what’s your prep work like on gameday or leading up to it, what’s your process, what do you go through?”

“It’s always fun to kind of talk about that stuff because everyone is a little different, each sport is a little bit different on that side of it, but at the end of the day, it’s all pretty similar when you kind of get down to it. So it is fun for me to go, I love going to other sporting events. Yes, I am a Buckeye fan, I usually get grief for that for some reason, I don’t know why.”

Ryan Blaney riding media wave after NASCAR championship

This is just one of many recent media appearances Ryan Blaney has made. When you win the NASCAR championship you get to go to cool places and do cool things. Speaking on the SEC network, that’s good for the sport and good for Blaney’s own brand.

The driver must be having a good college football season with his Buckeyes 9-0 and #3 in the nation.

Of course, Marty Smith and Ryan McGee have been around NASCAR for a long time. It’s no mistake that he’s on their show. Both of those guys want to see NASCAR do well and I’m glad to see them have Blaney on the show.

Next season could be massive for Ryan Blaney, and I mean that. How could it be bigger than winning a championship? While it will be hard to top that, I believe we could see Blaney win four or more races, breaking his career-best for a single season.

Momentum is major in racing. I believe this championship will give Ryan Blaney a ton of confidence and help him close out races in situations where he has failed to in the past. Less than 100 days until the Daytona 500, folks.
