Ryan Blaney tells hilarious story of Bubba Wallace botching ring handoff at his wedding

Ryan Blaney and his wife Gianna tied the knot on Dec. 12, 2024, in Aspen, Colorado. Bubba Wallace was in attendance and had one very important job.

Wallace was tasked with handing both Blaney and Gianna each other’s wedding rings when the time came. The spot had been rehearsed but unfortunately for Wallace, he botched it. Blaney told the story while speaking on “The Teardown” podcast with Jordan Bianchi and Jeff Gluck of The Athletic.

“So, my nephews are walking down the aisle and I didn’t trust my nephews with the rings. They had the boxes, so they felt like they were special,” Blaney said Wednesday during Daytona 500 Media Day. “But they were in his [Wallace’s] jacket pocket — my ring and Gianna’s ring. We go through this in rehearsals before and like say this, and this, this, and this. And then I’m gonna ask Bubba for the rings and he pulls them out, gives Gianna Ryan’s ring first so he can put yours on last. So, he’s fiddling around, and we had joked about this like just don’t drop them. And he’s fiddling around, and he pulls them out and just typical Bubba, just botches it.”

Wallace did the thing — he dropped the rings. It’s everyone worst nightmare who has been in that position, and Wallace lived it. But that isn’t where this story ends. Blaney and Gianna each had a microphone on them for wedding attendees in the back. When the rings hit the ground, Wallace let out an “oh, s***” for everyone to hear.

“So, the funniest part was we had microphones on us so people in the back could hear us and he’s standing right next to me, so when he drops them, he’s like, ‘Oh, s***’ over the microphone. We got them and it was like a break in the seriousness of the wedding. It was funny but yeah, he dropped the ball literally,” Blaney said. “One job — stand there, don’t pass out and hand the rings to us and he did one. He didn’t do the other.”

Maybe things didn’t go as planned for Wallace, but it made for a moment Blaney will never forget.
