Last week, the Truex family announced the death of Martin Truex Sr. The father of Ryan and Martin Truex Jr., the news came as a shock. The father and former NASCAR driver died at 66 years old.

Today, Ryan Truex posted his own message about his father’s passing. It is never easy losing a parent. Clearly, Martin Truex Sr. had a profound impact on both of his sons, not to mention his impact on racing in the Northeast.

Here is what Ryan had to say about his father, complete with a great photo from back in the day:
“Been a really tough few weeks losing our Dad unexpectedly. Just wanted to say thank you to all of the family friends, NASCAR Community and fans for all of the kind words and condolences,” Truex wrote on X/Twitter.

“It’s been amazing to hear all the stories about him and all the people he made a lasting impression with along the way. He was truly one of a kind, we all miss him already. Hoping we can get him a few trophies in Daytona!”

Racing is a family sport. Traditions are passed down from one generation to the next. Long nights in the garage and shop are where parents and children bond. So, it isn’t surprising that is true for the Truex family as well.

Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Truex are both going to race at Daytona this month. Martin will compete in the Daytona 500 for Tricon Garage but will have to qualify as an open car. Ryan will have to qualify in the Xfinity Series for Sam Hunt Racing.

Martin Truex Jr. back like he never left…because he hasn’t

Despite being a newly retired driver, Martin Truex Jr. has yet to miss an official points race. He won’t until Atlanta later this season. In his quest to finally win a Daytona 500, Truex is coming back for the 2025 season opener.

It’s like he hasn’t even left. Because he hasn’t yet. Yes, he won’t be at Bowman Gray for the Clash. No, he won’t be in the 19 car at Daytona. However, Truex fans can look forward to not saying goodbye quite yet.

Joe Gibbs Racing is helping to prepare the Tricon car. At least, the teams have an alliance. With a field of nine open cars, four to five will go home depending on who qualifies. Helio Castroneves possesses a provisional that allows him a 41st starting spot if he fails to qualify on speed.

Martin Truex Jr. will be at Daytona and he’s out to win. First, he has to race his way into the Daytona 500. That won’t be easy with the crowded field of open entries.
