Saints HC Darren Rizzi names Spencer Rattler starting QB vs. Packers
New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi has announced that Spencer Rattler is moving back into the starting quarterback role as Derek Carr continues to recover from an injury.
Rattler played well in relief of Jake Haener this past Sunday against the Washington Commanders and now will get the start this Sunday when the Saints take on the Green Bay Packers.
Spencer Rattler completed 10 of 21 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown against Washington. He threw a potential game-winning or game-tying touchdown with no time left on the clock. However, New Orleans opted to go for two, and the two-point try failed.
“Spencer Rattler will be the starting quarterback for us,” Darren Rizzi said. “Obviously he gave us a spark this past game in the second half. Had a real good practice day today. So that’s where we are with him.”

More on New Orleans Saints quarterback situation
New Orleans Saints head coach Darren Rizzi made it clear on Thursday that starting quarterback Derek Carr is not being shut down for the season and is still working to get back on the field.
He added that Carr is upset with reports suggesting that his season is over.
“Apparently there’s been a bunch of things written the past few days. Here’s the situation with Derek. Derek Carr wants to play this season. He wants to come back and play this season,” Rizzi said. “There is absolutely zero doubt about that. He’s in here every day doing everything he possibly can from a rehab standpoint to get himself back on the field.
“There’s absolutely zero doubt about that. He had actually his best day today. I respect and appreciate the fact that he wants to come back and play. And so therefore that’s why this thing’s day-to-day.”
