While golf is generally considered to be a “gentleman’s game,” the Ryder Cup brings out the competitive juices in every golfer. It’s the most competitive and intense team event in the sport and Sam Burns showed plenty of emotion while on the course.

Burns, one of the team members for the United States squad, chirped at European fans after sinking a putt to win the sixth hole at the Ryder Cup. And, if you can read lips, it’s pretty clear what he said.

“What was that? What’d you say,” Burns said. “I can’t hear you. I can’t f***ing hear you.”

That obviously prompted plenty of boos from the fans. But when it’s the Ryder Cup, these are the kind of moments that we love. It’s not the stuff you typically see during golf tournaments, even the major championships.

At the moment, though, the European team was the one that could do most of the talking. The squad owned a 9.5-2.5 lead over the Americans in Day 2 of the event.

Maybe this is the kind of fuel that will help the United States get back into the hunt. Or maybe it adds some kindling to the fire the Europeans played with on Day 1.

This year’s Ryder Cup is taking place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, just outside of Rome, Italy.

Brooks Koepka takes shot at Jon Rahm at Ryder Cup

Brooks Koepka had a few choice words for Jon Rahm in the aftermath of Team Europe’s dominant performance in the opening round of the 2023 Ryder Cup on Friday.

During the post-round interview, moments after Rahm scored an eagle at the 18th to secure a halve for he and Nicolai Højgaard against Koepka and Scottie Scheffler in the four-ball match, the five-time major champion accused Rahm of acting like a “child.”

“I mean, I think me and Scottie birdied, what did we say, 14, we birdied 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and then lost by two,” Koepka said, via Christopher Powers of Golf Digest. “So yeah. I mean, I want to hit a board and pout just like Jon Rahm did. But, you know, it is what it is. Act like a child. But we’re adults. We move on.”

The comment, even from the ever-outspoken Koepka, comes out of the left field considering the two were seemingly cordial together at the Masters in April after Rahm edged him out to win his first green jacket. But considering Rahm had just banked his second eagle in three holes to complete the comeback for his pairing, it’s understandable that emotions were running high for Koepka.
