Sam Cosmi has shown 'really consistent play' per Dan Quinn
Dan Quinn has been impressed with what he’s seen from Sam Cosmi during the early stages of Washington Commanders training camp. While speaking to the media last week, the Commanders’ head coach revealed that Cosmi was one of the guys who has been consistent with his play without making the highlight reel.
“Sam Cosmi has shown really consistent play,” Quinn said. “You would have thought he’d been a guard for a really long time. In fact, he wasn’t you know from moving from tackle to guard. So I would say his ability to stay square, to pull, he’s an athlete that’s inside. He’s somebody that has impressed me by the size of him.”
Cosmi, a Texas Longhorns alum, was selected by Washington in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Commanders had him at right tackle before moving him to right guard last year.
“I told Coach, I said, ‘Listen, coming into the year, wherever you feel I’m going to be the best at, and wherever the team needs me at, I’m going to be there and work my ass off every day and be the best person at that position,'” Cosmi said before the start of the 2023 season, per the team’s official website.

Sam Cosmi is a top player for the Commanders
In 2023, Cosmi started all 17 games and was the one offensive lineman who stood out. “I thought Sam Cosmi played exceptionally well. He really did,” then-head coach Ron Rivera told reporters after the 2023 season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. “He had a pretty solid day. Played very smart, played with good vision. There are a couple examples, some of the things that he did on some of the run blocks and then you can pull a couple shots of some of the things he did in protection, but Sam had a really good day.”
After finishing the 2023 season with a 4-13 record, the Commanders made some changes on offense to help guys like Cosmi. Former Dallas Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz will join Cosmi on the offensive line who will be protecting rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was selected by the Commanders at No. 2 overall in the draft. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin is arguably the Commanders’ best player, catching 79 passes for 1,002 yards and four touchdowns last year.
