Everyone could use some levity in their life, and in the case of Washington Commanders offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi, a little levity was needed during Monday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

As a fight broke out between the two teams during the second quarter, Cosmi decided he’d hold back on taking some swings, and instead, bust out the rare big man griddy. And a very good griddy at that, especially for a 6-foot-6, 309-pounder.

Cosmi went full big man griddy after the Commanders found the end zone with 1:49 remaining in the second quarter, by way of a nine-yard reception by running back Antonio Gibson. After the play, Commanders offensive lineman Nick Gates leveled Ravens defensive back Ar’Darius Washington, and the melee ensued.

But amid the push and shove fest, it was Cosmi who captured the attention of the broadcast, especially after his declaration ahead of the game. The Ravens entered the contest riding a 24-game winning streak in the preseason — for whatever that’s worth. To Cosmi, it’s worth nothing, as he downplayed it while speaking with the media. He then, however, guaranteed his team would be the ones to end the streak.

“I think it’s a stupid record,” Cosmi said. “I mean, who gives a s— about preseason games? If we beat it, great. We’re gonna beat it, so there we go.”

Cosmi, Washington’s second-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Texas, has suited up in 23 games (15 starts) over the past two seasons. After initially playing right tackle, Cosmi has slid over to right guard as part of the Commanders’ reshuffling of the offensive line. Cosmi has taken to the move, ready to contribute in any capacity.

“I told coach, I said, ‘Listen, coming into the year, wherever you feel I’m going to be the best at, and wherever the team needs me at, I’m going to be there and work my ass off every day and be the best person at that position,'” Cosmi said earlier this offseason, via the team’s website.
