It’s official, Sam Mayer will be returning for another go-round at JR Motorsports in 2024 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Mayer has driven the No. 1 for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Xfinity team over the last two seasons, and he’ll officially be returning for a third. On Tuesday, JR Motorsports officially announced an extension for Mayer.

JR Motorsports took to Twitter to reveal the awesome news, complete with the caption “Back for More,” accompanying a graphic of Mayer.

Additionally, Mayer released a statement following the news, and he’s hoping to build on it by capturing a title in the Xfinity Series playoffs.

“It’s been a great year for our No. 1 team,” Mayer said, via a statement from the team. “Finally getting that first win was like a weight lifted and so energizing.

“I’m really grateful to continue my career with JR Motorsports and thankful to Dale (Earnhardt) Jr., Kelley and Mr. (Rick) Hendrick for making it happen. Now we can turn our attention to a championship run this year.”

Mayer isn’t the only one elated with Tuesday’s news, as JR Motorsports CEO Kelley Earnhardt Miller seconded his opinion.

“We’ve seen so much potential in Sam and we’re proud of all he’s accomplished this year,” said Earnhardt Miller. “The victory at Road America was huge for him and his family. Getting things solidified for next year will allow him to focus on the remainder of 2023 as he competes for the championship.”

Moreover, Mayer has shown significant growth since taking his talents to the Xfinity Series. Still only 20 years old, the sky is the limit for the JR Motorsports wheelman.

Specifically, Mayer has shown some tremendous promise on road courses, as he’s found victory lane at both Watkins Glen and Road America. He’s given JR Motorsports a new budding star to lean on moving forward.

With longtime JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry taking his talents to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024, moving to the No. 4 at Stewart-Haas Racing following the retirement of Kevin Harvick, a void is going to be left at JRM. Mayer is hoping to fill that, as he continues to evolve as a driver going forward.

It’s been a promising start to Sam Mayer’s Xfinity Series career, and it’s evident he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. JR Motorsports believes in their driver, and he’s going to look to make good on their confidence in him in the present, as well as the future.
