The Green Bay Packers should have a key offseason addition back in action this week after receiver Sammy Watkins was activated from the injured reserve on Saturday afternoon.

The organization announced the move, which was accompanied by a handful of other roster transactions to accommodate it.

Watkins was placed on the injured reserve back on Sept. 24 with a hamstring injury. He had logged six catches for 111 yards in the first two games of the season prior to his injury.

In order to reactivate Watkins, Green Bay placed receiver Randall Cobb and center/guard Jake Hanson on the injured reserve. The Packers also elevated linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday this week.

Watkins was listed as questioanable on the injury report.

Other changes for Green Bay included tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) moving to questionable and defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt (illness) moving to questionable on the injury report.

Green Bay will take on Washington on Sunday, with a game that kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.

Sammy Watkins activated, eager to make mark

Green Bay had hoped Sammy Watkins could supplement the receiving corps, signing him this offseason to a one-year, $4 million contract. Green Bay became Watkins’ fifth professional franchise after he was a first-round draft pick for the Buffalo Bills back in 2014.

After stints with Buffalo, the Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City and Baltimore, Watkins joined Green Bay in April.

He hasn’t played in 16 games in a season since his rookie campaign, frequently battling injury throughout his career.

Watkins recorded 27 catches for 394 yards and one touchdown in his lone season in Baltimore in 2021. That followed a three-year stint with the Chiefs, where Watkins was a part of the Super Bowl LIV champion squad.

The former Clemson star was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2011 and was a two-time first-team All-American in 2011 and 2013, as well as a first-team All-ACC selection in both of those seasons.
