A stunner came out of the NBA on Friday, with the San Antonio Spurs releasing guard Josh Primo. Just in his second year with the organization, Primo was the former No. 12 overall pick and 19 years old. At the time, the move was puzzling but with new information being released, the entire situation is coming to light.

According to both Romona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Primo’s release “stemmed” from the guard “exposing himself in front of women.”

“The San Antonio Spurs’ release of guard Josh Primo — the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft — stemmed from multiple alleged instances of Primo exposing himself to women,” Wojnarowski said in a tweet.

Shams Charania followed the report up, saying there was a former Spurs employee involved in the situation. She has hired Tony Buzbee to be her lawyer, the same person who have represented women against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.

“Sources: A former Spurs female employee has alleged that guard Josh Primo exposed himself to her, and she has hired attorney Tony Buzbee,” Charania said. “Buzbee represented the women in the sexual misconduct lawsuits against NFL QB Deshaun Watson.”

Josh Primo releases statement on being released by San Antonio

The San Antonio Spurs shocked many around NBA circles when they announced they released Josh Primo on Friday. As the Spurs took on the Chicago Bulls Friday night, Primo sent a statement to ESPN regarding the situation.

Primo, a former star at Alabama, was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Spurs and was the youngest player in the draft that year. San Antonio recently picked up his third-year option, adding to the questions after the team announced his release. In a statement to Wojnarowski, Primo acknowledged the nature of the announcement while announcing he’s seeking mental health treatment.

“I know that you all are surprised by today’s announcement,” Primo stated. “I’ve been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time.”
