San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has dealt with plenty of criticism lately. For a little bit on Christmas Eve, his own general manager looked like one of those critics.

John Lynch opened some eyes when he appeared to like a tweet about Garoppolo Friday night. He ended up issuing an apology and claimed he didn’t know he liked the tweet.

“Apparently – while in Christmas Eve Mass w my Family – I accidentally and unknowingly liked a tweet,” Lynch tweeted. “Never intended to and remain a huge believer in Jimmy. Merry Christmas to everyone.”

Thursday night, San Francisco had a rough showing against the Tennessee Titans. The 49ers got off to a quick 10-0 lead, but ended up losing to the Titans 20-17 on a last-second field goal.

Garoppolo went 26 for 35 for 322 yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions. After the game, a fan tweeted “leave Jimmy in Nashville” and tagged Lynch. Somehow, he hit the “like” button, which raised some eyebrows across the Twittersphere.

This year, Garoppolo has completed 68% of his passes for 3,494 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also has 10 interceptions — three away from his career-high of 13 set in 2018.

The loss to Tennessee dropped San Francisco to 8-7 on the season. The 49ers are on the bubble in the playoff picture and currently have the No. 6 seed in the NFC.

San Francisco’s next game is Jan. 2, 2022 against the Houston Texans as it fights for its playoff life.

NFL playoff scenarios entering Week 16

Here are all the playoff-clinching scenarios for Week 16, courtesy of NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

First, the NFC features some of the best teams in the entire NFL. For the first half of the season, it looked like nobody was going to defeat the Arizona Cardinals. Since, they’ve looked beatable — but they still have an inside track to the playoffs.

The Cardinals simply need to win to clinch above all, but they can make it due to help from many different teams. A combination of results from the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints could guarantee the Cardinals’ return to the playoffs.

As for their division foe, the Los Angeles Rams also could clinch with a victory. However, losses by both the Eagles and Saints could guarantee their spot if they’re unable to defeat the Vikings on Sunday.

Finally, the defending Super Bowl Champions could clinch their division on Sunday, as Tom Brady and the Buccaneers need a victory over the Carolina Panthers to win the NFC South. However, they can also clinch the division with a loss — as long as the Saints are defeated by the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.
