Brock Purdy saved a news reporter and her dog from being attacked by a coyote earlier this year. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, host and former NFL punter Pat McAfee talked to the San Francisco 49ers quarterback about spotting a coyote during a commercial shoot and alerting a local CBS news reporter.

“I can’t believe that was a real thing,” Purdy said. “She walked by, and sure enough she said she was a news anchor. I was like ‘Dude, I just saved a news anchor’s life from being eaten by a coyote. It’s real man. I can confirm it.”

Purdy went on to say he didn’t realize San Francisco had coyotes. “We’re shooting this commercial by a hill outside of the city,” Purdy said. “I see this thing trotting by and had a long tail. I was like ‘Bro, it looks like a mini wolf.'”

Purdy realized that nobody was going to scream, and that’s when he took action. “I was like ‘Yo, there was a coyote,” Purdy said. “That thing went running off. It could have been an ugly day on the shoot, but we saved her.

The reporter’s name is Sara Donchey and she’s an anchor for KPIX. The incident happened on Feb. 22, and Donchey wrote on social media, “Shout out to the real Brock for saving my dog’s life, maybe?” She explained the incident on the news later that night as she spotted Purdy filming a John Deere commercial.

Brock Purdy off to a good start to his NFL career

Things seem to be going well for Brock Purdy who was the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He became the 49ers starting QB late in the 2022 season and has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

In 2023, Purdy threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 113 passer rating. He was named to his first Pro Bowl and finished fourth in NFL MVP voting. Purdy also led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, but the team lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Obviously, yeah, we’re playing in the Super Bowl, and I’m very honored and thankful,” Purdy said before the Super Bowl, per Sports Illustrated. “I want to win a championship for this organization, but more than anything I’m trying to serve my guys on this team well and love on them well and the whole organization and everyone in my life. That’s how I view it.”
