The San Francisco 49ers have selected former Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Rourke made a name for himself during this past season with the Hoosiers, and is now set to take that next step.

Rourke led Indiana to an incredible 11-1 inish to the regular season, which was capped off with an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He received a bevy of Heisman votes, and while it didn’t end the way the Hoosiers wanted it to, with a loss to Notre Dame in the First Round of the CFP, it was still a landmark campaign for the program.

All told, Rourke passed for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding two rushing touchdowns to his resume, as well. It was his first season in Bloomington after spending five with the Ohio Bobcats, and he proved he could get the job done in the Big Ten in 2024.

Rourke underwent surgery to repair his ACL in Jnauary after he was believed to have played tore it back in August during his final season in college. That means he played the entire season on a torn ACL, and still managed to lead to Hoosiers to the CFP against all odds.

Before Indiana, Rourke spent five seasons at Ohio, playing for the Bobcats. In 2022, he was MAC Offensive Player of the Year, and followed that up by earning second-team All-MAC in 2023 before entering the portal and committing to the Hoosiers last offseason.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Kurtis Rourke

Now that Kurtis Rourke has been drafted, fans may be wondering what to expect from their new quarterback. NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein provided his analysis of the former Hoosiers star signal caller.

Zierlein: “Rourke earns a draftable grade because of his size, experience and production. He’s coming off an ACL tear, but the injury might not have a major impact on his draft slotting since his game isn’t built on mobility. Rourke’s evaluation requires 2023 tape to get a feel for his delivery and velocity when his knee is stable.

“While he can make pro throws, the accuracy and placement is average. He’s a decent field-reader who throws with adequate touch and anticipation. Rourke played winning football in 2024 and he’s plenty tough, but he needs to take better care of the football if he wants to stick with an NFL team.”
