San Francisco 49ers vs Minnesota Vikings: Inactives for Monday Night Football
The San Francisco 49ers (5-1) are set to enter their Week 7 road tilt against the Minnesota Vikings (2-4) without a couple of key players.
Left tackle Trent Williams and receiver Deebo Samuel are both out, according to the final inactives report released ahead of the game Monday. Running back Christian McCaffrey, however, is in, and will once again be the focal point of San Francisco’s offense.
The trio all suffered various injuries in the 19-17 Week 6 defeat to the Cleveland Browns (4-2). Samuel suffered the most notable injury, a hairline fracture in his shoulder, and will miss the next two games leading up to the 49ers’ bye week.
“Deebo has changed, took x-rays and MRIs earlier in the week, didn’t have anything,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday. “Pain was still there, so we got a CT the other day and found a hairline fracture. So he’ll be out this game, next game and we’ll see after the bye week.”

McCaffrey, who sustained an oblique injury against Cleveland, will play despite missing multiple practices this week. A true workhorse, McCaffrey has already racked up 133 total touches this season — a 377-touch pace over a 17-game season. McCaffrey isn’t a stranger to having a heavy workload. In 2019 with the Carolina Panthers, McCaffrey tallied 403 touches en route to recording a 1,000/1,000 campaign.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed Thursday if McCaffrey’s workload is sustainable.
“I mean, we treat him as our starting running back,” Shanahan said. “So, I don’t really think of how many touches we want to get somebody in a year. That’s week-to-week and how the game goes. But he gets a lot more extra because he gets thrown to so much in the passing game. I’m happy with how he’s being used. I’m happy with how he’s been playing, and we’ll see how the rest of the year goes.”
