Saquon Barkley throws shade at Giants QB situation, tells Jameis Winston to sign with New York
Saquon Barkley is six days away from playing in his first Super Bowl after joining the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason following a six-year stay with the New York Giants.
And on Monday’s Super Bowl Opening Night in New Orleans, Barkley took one final jab at the Giants. Jameis Winston, working as a FOX Sports digital correspondent for Super Bowl week, is a free agent to be in March. So, he asked Barkley which team should sign him in free agency.
Barkley responded: ‘I think New York needs a quarterback right now.”
Winston asked, “New York who?” — a fair question to ask when it comes to the Giants and Jets. Barkley meant the Giants, he told Winston.
Saquon Barkley, Eagles set for Super Bowl matchup vs. Chiefs
Ouch… though Barkley isn’t entirely wrong. His former team is in search of a quarterback for the future after releasing Daniel Jones midway through the 2024 season. Holding the No. 3 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, the Giants will likely find that guy with that selection. And of course, they could also sign Winston as Barkley suggested.

As for Barkley, the 2,000-yard rusher is getting set for the biggest game of his life, which happens to be on his 28th birthday. What better way than to celebrate by hoisting a Lombardi Trophy? That was certainly the plan when he made the decision to leave New York in favor of Philadelphia.
“That’s why I came here. It was one of the first conversations I had with Howie [Roseman]. That’s one of the conversations I had with my family. Like I said last week, I came to Philadelphia to be a part of games like this,” Barkley said after the NFC Championship Game victory over the Washington Commanders. “Nothing better than a game where you can advance to the Super Bowl, so super excited about that. It was a team effort and want to give a shoutout to all the guys on our team.”
Standing in Barkley and the Eagles’ way are the Kansas City Chiefs, going for an unprecedented three-peat.
