The rain isn’t going to let up enough to let NASCAR dry the track and get cars out there. So, Daytona 500 practice, the second of the week, has been canceled. Saturday does not look promising for fans wanting to see Xfinity Series qualifying and racing.

Cup Series practice was supposed to be at 10:30 AM today. Now, the Cup garage will have to work with what they go in that first practice. Those final touches and details will have to be made without another session or not made at all.

Let’s hope the rain let’s up and we get a Daytona 500 in this Sunday. For now, enjoy a rainy Saturday and try not to think about all of the NASCAR we are missing out on.

NASCAR has also decided to put the Cup Series through tech today from 11-3:30 later today. Then, the Cup Series cars will be impounded, so no need for tech on Sunday. Just making sure they get everything squared away in case they have a small timeframe to work with on Sunday.

Last night, we saw NASCAR’s willingness to make things work once again. They moved the ARCA race up to after the Truck Series race instead of having it today. While it was a mess of a race, it at least was a full race. So, we could see some more creative scheduling over the next two days in order to get these races in.

Daytona 500 plagued by rain

Every few years it feels like the Daytona 500 is hit with rain that just won’t go away. The forecast shifted a few times, but it looked like it was going to be a washout either way for today.

Still, fans and teams are going to be a little nervous. Moving ahead to later today and even into tomorrow, NASCAR is going to keep an eye on the weather and see if they can get some races finished.

The Duels at Daytona saw an increase in viewership and NASCAR was the top sport on TV Thursday. There is real interest and momentum in the sport from a viewership standpoint and this is just going to hurt that progress.

Let’s not despair too much. If we can get the Daytona 500 in at a reasonable hour on Sunday or Monday, there is still hope. It doesn’t look too great for Xfinity Series qualifying today, either. Stay tuned to see what happens today at the World Center of Racing.
