NFL RedZone returned in all of its glory on Sunday afternoon, but Scott Hanson was left apologizing to Tom Brady following the latter’s debut with FOX due to a perceived dig.

On Sunday, while Brady was beginning his broadcast on the call during the Cleveland Browns-Dallas Cowboys clash, Hanson gave seven-time Super Bowl champion grief for how boring he was being on the call.

Cowboys’ kicker Brandon Aubrey was about to line up for a 71-yard field goal attempt, and Hanson believed Brady should’ve sounded more excited about the proposition. The NFL RedZone host wasn’t too pleased with Brady’s enthusiasm during the play, and he let fans know about it with a tongue in cheek comment.

“(Tom) Brady has gotta get more excited than that in the booth,” Hanson told the massive RedZone audience, regarding the commentary.

While a 71-yard field goal attempt is no joke, Aubrey never was able to attempt it, as the Cowboys changed their mind after a timeout. It would’ve been fascinating to see, but the only thing to come out of the situation was Hanson’s dig, which he apologized for on Monday morning, feeling terrible about a comment that was meant to be taken lightly.

“This was unfair & inconsiderate by me,” Hanson said, in response to his original quote. “Yes, I was saying it tongue in cheek – but I didn’t calculate how it may come across. @TomBrady, I apologize. I promise I am rooting you on in this new venture!”

As you can see, Hanson regretted coming for one of the greatest athletes of all time, believing it to have been a mistake, as his comments have been taken out of context over the last 24 hours.

Regardless, Brady has accomplished amazing things in his career as a player, but football fans and analysts are still well aware he’s got a ways to go in the broadcast booth. There’s no hiding that, even if he’s practiced immensely for the gig.

No amount of celebrity, wealth, or fame can make up for that lack of experience. He might be a seven-time Super Bowl Champion and one of the greatest athletes ever to grace the Earth, but he’s still a rookie in the broadcast booth, and the whole world saw that in Week 1.

Moving forward, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how Tom Brady and his broadcasting career fares in the coming years, with Scott Hanson keeping a keen eye on the legend, biting his tongue before delivering some criticism.
