Scottie Scheffler arrest: Detective Bryan Gillis injury, pants damage revealed
The Louisville Metro Police Department released Friday previously redacted documents from Scottie Scheffler’s arrest outside Valhalla Golf Club last month, including an image of the injury to Detective Bryan Gillis’ knee, as well as his $80 pants that were “damaged beyond repair.”
Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, was arrested in the early morning of Friday, May 17, prior to Round 2 of the 2024 PGA Championship. He was booked on charges of assault of a police officer in the second degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. Scheffler was released from custody shortly before 9 a.m. ET and arrived back at Valhalla ahead of his 10:08 a.m. tee time.
In the police report, filed by Gillis, he claimed that he “suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee” after he attached himself to Scheffler’s PGA marked car. Gillis also stated that he had to be “transported to the hospital for further medical treatment by emergency medical personnel.”
All charges against Scottie Scheffler dropped
Jefferson County attorney Mike O’Connell announced last Wednesday that all charges against Scheffler had been dropped. Gillis subsequently released a statement that said there’s no “ill will” between he and Scheffler.

“Mr. Scheffler and I both agree there will be no ill will over this going forward,” Gillis said. “Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility and respect. My family and I appreciate that.”
Gillis ended the statement with a P.S., “Yes, the department had us buying freaking $80 pants. To those concerned, they were indeed ruined. But Scottie, it’s all good. I never would’ve guessed I’d have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this. Take care and be safe.”
Scheffler went onto finish eighth at Valhalla, coming short of winning his third career major. He finished T2 in the Charles Schwab Challenge the following week. Scheffler currently sits atop the leaderboard in the Memorial Tournament.
