Scottie Scheffler makes interesting fashion choice for PGA Championship one year after arrest

Scottie Scheffler wore orange almost exactly one year after he was arrested at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. On Wednesday, one day before the start of the 2025 PGA Championship, Scheffler wore an orange polo shirt, likely paying tribute to him wearing an orange jumpsuit at this time last year.
This led to some interesting responses on social media. One person wrote, “How funny would it have been if he showed up with some fake ink on his face as though he got a bunch of prison tats!”
“Should have worn (his) prison number on his back,” another social media user wrote. “That would have been some major league trolling. Along with a mugshot of his arresting officer. Isn’t that guy unemployed now?”
While it would have been clever for him to wear orange because of his arrest, Scheffler could have selected that color because he’s a Texas Longhorns alum. During his time at Texas, Scottie Scheffler was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2015 after winning the Big 12 individual championship.

Why was Scottie Scheffler arrested last year?
On the morning of May 17, 2024, Scheffler was arrested at the Valhalla Golf Club and was charged with second-degree assault of a police driver, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The arrest happened hours before he was set to compete in the second round of the PGA Championship, but Scheffler was released a couple hours later. The charges against Scheffler were dropped on May 29.
Scottie Scheffler is one of the favorites to win this year’s PGA Championship. He enters the tournament with momentum as he won The CJ Cup Byron Nelson earlier this month. It was Scheffler’s first PGA Tour win of the year and 14th overall.
“I talked a little bit about how my game was trending, and it was nice to sort of see some results from a lot of hard work to start the year,” Scheffler said this week, per CBS Sports. “I feel like my game’s in a good spot, so I think it’d be silly to say I can’t ride some of that momentum into this week.”
