Scottie Scheffler, Tom Kim exchange chirps after big putts at President’s Cup
Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim went after each other at the Presidents Cup on Thursday. At the eighth hole, Kim made a big putt, leading to him belting out a loud yell. Scheffler then made a birdie on the same hole and then appeared to yell “What was that?” to Kim while celebrating.
While it might seem like Scheffler and Kim are bitter rivals, the two are really good friends. Before the tournament, Kim talked about how he wanted to face Scheffler at the Presidents Cup which is being played at The Royal Montreal Golf Club.
“If I can play with Scottie, that would be very fun,” Kim said, per PGATour.com. “We’re comfortable with each other, I play a lot of golf with him back home. For one week, I absolutely dislike him. I had a chance to take him down one-on-one this year (at the Travelers Championship) but I lost. I like to be able to have a revenge match. He’s always going to play really, really well but at the same time, if I can do something special on Sunday (singles session) against a player of caliber like him, it’ll be huge for our team.”
Scheffler and Kim live in Dallas and share the same birthday. Earlier this year, the two battled at the Travelers Championship, a tournament won by Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler talks about competing against Tom Kim
“It’s fun competing against your friends,” Scheffler said after winning the Travelers Championship in June, per ESPN. “But at the same time, it’s difficult. Because part of me wants him to miss the putt and part of me wants him to make the putt. … But he should remember that putt he made on 18, because it was pretty special. And he’s a great player and a great champion.”
Scheffler is the top golfer in the world and has had a memorable 2024 season. The 28-year-old won the Masters in April and the Tour Championship earlier this month. Scheffler has claimed the PGA Tour Fed Ex Cup and won an ESPY for the Best Golfer Award.
Kim, 22, has won three PGA Tour tournaments in his career. His best finish in a major championship was when he finished tied for second at The Open Championship last year.
