Seahawks insider hints at possible DK Metcalf trade to Green Bay Packers

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf could be on the trade market this offseason as he enters the final year of his three-year, $72 million deal.
While Seattle isn’t actively shopping Metcalf, the Green Bay Packers have had discussions with the Seahawks this week, per Corbin K. Smith of Emerald City Spectrum. For the Seahawks to move Metcalf, according to Smith, the Packers would have to give up their No. 23 overall selection in April’s NFL Draft, along with either Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks.
“Anything less than that, it’s not happening,” Smith wrote on X.
Matt Schneidman, Packers insider for The Athletic, later stated “there has been no contact or negotiations as of now between the Packers and Seahawks regarding a DK Metcalf trade.”
Metcalf, 27, has a $31.875 million cap hit in 2025. While he remains productive, tallying 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns last season, the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba makes extending Metcalf an interesting dilemma for general manager John Schneider.

Then came Schneider’s remarks on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, when asked where things stand with Metcalf.
“Where do things stand?” Schneider said, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “I’m not sure. He’s on our team. Yeah, yeah. He’s a big, strong, fast, physical receiver.”
Head coach Mike Macdonald was much more open while addressing the importance of getting Metcalf more involved in the offense this season.
“From my understanding, going into the Atlanta game, I think he was tops in the league in targets,” Macdonald said. “I’m not sure where the numbers were, but it’s that trend of focus we’ve got on the offense that we’re shooting for, and then to Jaxon’s credit — and DK not being 100 percent throughout the second, third quarter of the season — it speaks to Jaxon’s development. But we want to get the ball to DK, we want to make sure that he’s a focal point of our offense for sure.”

Packers could use a WR like DK Metcalf
But let’s say Metcalf is available and the Packers are interested; he would immediately become the top dog in Green Bay.
Jayden Reed was the Packers’ leading receiver this season, hauling in 55 receptions for 857 yards and six touchdowns. The next leading pass-catcher? Tight end Tucker Kraft, who caught 50 passes for 707 yards and seven scores.
In the NFC Wild Card Round defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, Reed led the way with 46 yards on four catches. Absent from that game was Christian Watson, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears and will likely miss a significant chunk of the 2025 season.
Running back Josh Jacobs, speaking with Kay Adams of the “Up & Adams Show” at Super Bowl Radio Row in New Orleans, said the Packers need a “proven No. 1” wideout.
“We need a wide receiver. A real wide receiver,” Jacobs said. “Love the guys we have but we need a proven No. 1.”
Metcalf fits the bill.
