Seahawks safety Jamal Adams passes physical
The Seattle Seahawks got some good news Thursday when reports came out that star safety Jamal Adams had passed his physical exam ahead of the 2023 season.
Of course, Adams had his season ended prematurely in ’22 thanks to a torn quad. But according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Seattle safety is on track to be back on the field once the yea begins.
“Seahawks’ safety Jamal Adams, who had torn quadriceps tendon that ended his 2022 season, passed his physical today.”
Great news for Adams and the Seahawks.
More on Jamal Adams’ time with Seattle
Adams tore his quad in the season opener last season on a Monday night versus the Denver Broncos. The injury came after a 2021 season where Adams played only 12 games but was highly productive during those contests. He had 87 tackles on the season with five passes defended and two interceptions before tearing his labrum and missing the rest of that season as well.
“He’s going to do everything he can to get it right,” head coach Pete Carroll said over the summer of Adams, but declined to offer any assurances on when the former All-Pro would be back. “As soon as he can be right, he’ll be right.”

Adams was traded to Seattle ahead of the 2020 season from the New York Jets for safety Bradley McDougald, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 first-round pick. He was named to the NFL All-Pro second team that first season with the Seahawks, which was his third All-Pro honor in his career. He had earned first-team honors in 2019.
Even without Adams for pretty much the entire season last year, Seattle was arguably the surprise team of the NFL. With Geno Smith under center following the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks finished 9-8 in the always-competitive NFC West to earn a Wild Card spot.
They faced the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the playoffs. While Seattle lead the game at the half, San Francisco went on to win the game by 18 points. It was the 10th playoff appearance in Carroll’s 13 seasons as head coach of the Seahawks
Now, with a lot of that crew back in the saddle, plus another year of experience for their younger guys, the 2023 season sets up well. Don’t forget about the added benefit of the Broncos trade from last year, which netted them a top-five pick in CB Devon Witherspoon, who is a strong addition as well.
