The Seattle Seahawks are signing 41-year old offensive tackle Jason Peters to their active roster from their practice squad for the remainder of the season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former Arkansas Razorback is now in his 20th season in the National Football League, and he’ll turn 42 years old in January.

The Seahawks brought Peters onto their roster in September, after the franchise had uncertainty around the injuries to their starting tackles in the team’s loss in the season-opener. Right tackle Abraham Lucas missed the second half with a sore patella. Left tackle Charles Cross left the game in the third quarter with a sprained big toe.

Peters appeared in 10 games last year with the Dallas Cowboys, making one start for the franchise. Before the Cowboys, he started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021. In order to make room for Peters on the Seattle practice squad in September, quarterback Holton Ahlers and safety Brady Breeze were released.

If the franchise can get their offensive line to block adequately, their offense is loaded with a tantalizing number of weapons at multiple positions.

They not only have Geno Smith at quarterback, but Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at receiver. Then in the backfield, they’ve got a tandem of dynamic running backs in Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

More information on Jason Peters’ prolific career

He played his college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks, where he was eventually recruited as a defensive tackle. He was eventually moved to the tight end spot, hauling in four catches for 37 yards in his sophomore season. During Peters’ junior year with the Hogs, he hauled in 21 catches for 218 yards and four touchdowns, earning him second team All-SEC honors.

The majority of his prime in the NFL was spent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Peters has earned first team All-Pro honors three different times in his career (2007, 2011, 2013). He’s also been named to the Pro Bowl nine times during his storied career (2007-2011, 2013-2016).

You’ll be hard pressed to find an offensive lineman with as much experience as Peters–he’s started 219 games out of 240 career appearances.

On August 17th, 2009, the Eagles signed Peters to a six-year, $60 million deal. With the Eagles, he not only went on to have some of the best success of his own career, but the franchise won the Super Bowl in 2018. Philadelphia defeated New England 41-33, in what was the first Super Bowl championship in franchise history.
