Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said during his end-of-season press conference Wednesday he doesn’t know yet if quarterback Stetson Bennett will be part of the team in 2024.

“You know, I don’t know that,” McVay said, via Pro Football Talk. “I think that’s a conversation for another time. I think he’s doing better, but I wouldn’t be in a position to answer that accurately right now. That’s probably a long way away from me being able to answer that.”

Bennett, the Rams’ fourth-round selection this season out of Georgia, has been on the reserve/non-football illness list since Sept. 13. McVay said at the time it had nothing to do with the shoulder injury he was dealing with ahead of the Week 1 season opener.

“Out of respect for him and the situation, I’m going to leave all the specifics and particulars in-house,” McVay said. “And I want to be able to do that out of respect for that situation, so I’m not going to really have any follow-up information or anything that I’ll give in that regards.”

Stetson Bennett’s NFL career on hold

Bennett, 26, was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs (2021-22). He led Georgia to back-to-back national titles and was named the College Football Playoff National Championship Offensive MVP each year. Across four seasons of play, Bennett threw for 8,429 yards, 66 touchdowns and 21 interceptions on 65.1% passing. Bennett was a Heisman Finalist in 2022.

In November, Georgia honored Bennett at Sanford Stadium during its SEC showdown against Ole Miss. During a timeout, Bennett was handed his Burlsworth Award trophy, an award handed out to college football’s most outstanding player who began their career as a walk-on.

According to Pro Football Focus, Bennett was the lowest-graded quarterback in the NFL this preseason with an overall mark of 29.5. With Bennett out of the picture, the Rams had a revolving door behind Matthew Stafford before settling on Carson Wentz.

Los Angeles advanced to the postseason, falling 24-23 to the Detroit Lions in the NFC Wild Card Round.
