Seattle Seahawks bringing in UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee for top-30 visit

The Seattle Seahawks are using a top-30 visit to bring in former UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, a source tells On3.

The two-sport athlete started 58 baseball games at center field for the Knights in 2023. The former Ole Miss transfer started the last two seasons at quarterback for the Knights, throwing for 5,838 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns while rushing for 2,556 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Plumlee did not receive an invite to last month’s NFL Combine, however, he’s been working with Patrick Mahomes’ quarterback coach, Jeff Christensen, in anticipation of next week’s inaugural Big 12 Pro Day at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The Seattle Seahawks hold seven picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 25 to April 27 in Detroit. Plumlee played in the East-West Shrine Bowl in February, leading the offense on a six-play, 78-yard touchdown drive on his first possession. He also earned practice player of the week honors for the West team.

Geno Smith is the expected starter for the Seahawks entering the 2024 season. Seattle acquired Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell last week along with a fourth-round draft pick (No. 102 overall) and a sixth-rounder (No. 179) in exchange for picks in the third (No. 78) and fifth (No. 152) rounds. 

“Hopeful to get an opportunity, but like you said, I can do a lot of things,” John Rhys Plumlee said on The Paul Finebaum Show in February. “I think I can be a weapon in many different ways. But I also think that if you asked me, I’m one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world. Given the opportunity, I think that I am and I will be.”
