Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs will stay in an Arizona hospital overnight with a dislocated ankle and broken fibula, according to head coach Pete Carroll. The former Texas star was carted off the field during the Week 18 win over divisional rival Arizona Cardinals, a win the team finished off for their injured teammate in a contract year.

“Guys just love this guy,” Carroll said, via 710 ESPN Seattle’s Stacy Jo Rost. “They finished for him.”

In addition to Quandre Diggs, Pete Carroll announced that teammate Tyler Lockett and a few other team members would remain with him instead of flying back to Seattle with the rest of the team.

Although it has been a difficult season for the Seahawks with a number of injuries and tough losses, the show of support for a fallen teammate ends the year with a position image of team comradery.

More about Quandre Diggs

When he first entered the league, it was to little fanfare as a sixth round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2015. However, Diggs would not let his draft day slip define him.

After earning a three-year extension with Detroit, the Lions traded the safety to the Seahawks for a fifth round pick. The deal has been a steal for Seattle, as Diggs has made the Pro Bowl each year he has been with the team.

Diggs sat out during the preseason while looking for an extension to remain a Seahawk into the future. Diggs is one-half of the Seahawks’ dominant safety duo. He was ranked number 77 in this year’s NFL top 100 players list entering the season while his running mate Jamal Adams, came in at the No. 31 spot. He also witnessed Adams become the NFL’s highest-paid safety at $70 million over the next four years.

Diggs did not hold out or rather “hold in” as long as his teammate Duane Brown did. He sat out the last week of the teams’ preseason practices but said that he was not holding out from the team. And that the “situation” would be settled, and he’d be back on the field soon.

When Brown got his contract restructured and the regular season came, Diggs put his injury concerns and future playing plans on hold to perform on the field. He now enters the offseason with a devastating injury which will likely hurt his market value as he works back.
