Shane Lowry drive hits volunteer in head during final round at Pebble Beach

Golf can be a dangerous game for spectators and volunteers along the course. We got an example of that on Sunday evening at Pebble Beach, when Shane Lowry’s drive on the 15th hole hit a volunteer on the course. His drive hit the volunteer in the head, causing them immediately to go to the ground. The word from the CBS broadcast was that the volunteer is fine.
Here’s the drive.
It’s part of the game. Sometimes those situations can turn into serious cases. Thankfully this one wasn’t one of those. And Lowry and the volunteer can at least laugh it off a bit. It’s been quite a week for Shane Lowry, as he made a hole-in-one on Thursday on the iconic 7th hole.
Lowry has now made three hole-in-ones during his career. And on three of the most famous holes in golf history. The iconic 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Florida. The 16th hole at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia during The Master’s. And now at Pebble Beach. That’s quite the trio of holes to have hole-in-ones. Maybe there is something with the luck of the Irish for him.

Rory McIlroy came away with the victory at Pebble Beach on Sunday, finishing at 21-under. Shane Lowry finished in second place all by himself at 19-under par. So, while he didn’t win, it was still an exceptional week for Lowry. He carded a 66-70-65-68 to finish with a total of 269 strokes. Lowry brought home a cool $2,160,000 and 400 FedEx Cup points. McIlroy brought home $3.6 million and 700 FedEx Cup points.
Justin Rose and Lucas Glover tied for third place, finishing at 18-under. Russell Henley tied for fifth place with Cam Davis at 17-under par. Henley was leading the tournament after the first round, carding a 64 on the first day. He couldn’t quite close the deal, but a Top 5 finish at Pebble Beach is still an impressive result.
