Shane Lowry hits hole-in-one on iconic Pebble Beach 7th hole
Pebble Beach is one of the more spectacular tournaments golf fans look forward to each year. With stunning views, it’s one of the nicest golf courses on planet Earth. And in the first round Thursday, fans were treated to not only one hole-in-one by Rory McIlroy, but a second from fellow Irish men, Shane Lowry.
Check out Lowry’s hole-in-one on one of the most famous Par 3’s in all of golf.
Lowry has now made three hole-in-ones during his career. And on three of the most famous holes in golf history. The iconic 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Florida. The 16th hole at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia during The Master’s. And now at Pebble Beach. That’s quite the trio of holes to have hole-in-ones. Maybe there is something with the luck of the Irish for Shane Lowry.
Rory McIlroy and Lowry were so excited to get hole-in-ones, they decided to buy a round of beers for everyone in the media. Over the years on the PGA Tour, it’s kind of been a common gesture that players have done after hitting a hole-in-one.
Russell Henley is leading the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, after firing an 8-under on the first day. Henley has stepped his game up in recent years and has delivered exceptional performances in the big events. In 2023, the former Georgia star finished T4 at the Masters, one of golf’s most cherished events. He followed that up last year with a T7 in the US Open and a fifth place in the British Open. Clearly, Henley has found something special in his game the past few years. It’ll be exciting to see how he performs in the majors in the 2025 cycle.

Pebble Beach has always been a course that has demanded accuracy with the approach shots and that’s always been one of Henley’s strengths. Can he actually keep the momentum going for four days? Tough to tell. It’s way too early in the tournament for that.
There’s also a whole slew of talented golfers right behind him at 7-under par. Justin Rose, Viktor Hovland, Sepp Straka, and others. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry sit in a tie for eighth place at 6-under par. Scottie Scheffler is lurking at 5-under par as well. Simply put, he’s a threat every time he tees it up. It should be an exciting few days for one of the most anticipated events of the golf calendar.
