For those who can’t get enough of Shane van Gisbergen, good news. SVG has added five more Cup Series races to his schedule. The Kiwi has turned heads in NASCAR during his rookie Xfinity Series season, and now he has more on his plate.

Shane van Gisbergen is going to be in seven of the final twelve races of the season. This weekend at Daytona, next weekend at Darlington, and then Atlanta, Watkins, Glen, Talladega, Las Vegas, and Martinsville.

Sounds like Trackhouse Racing is preparing him for his 2025 season, perhaps in a third Cup Series car? Kaulig Racing will not use the No. 97 in the Xfinity Series next year, further pointing to SVG moving up.

The talented driver was already scheduled for The Glen and Vegas. He added Daytona, Darlington, Atlanta, Talladega, and Martinsville.

Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports detailed the additions on X.com, formerly known as Twitter.

Shane van Gisbergen is known for his road course racing. He won in his Cup Series debut at the Chicago Street Course. This season he has developed his oval racing talents. If you watch him throughout a race, he goes into tracks with no knowledge and slowly learns throughout a race.

At times, he has slowly moved up into the top-10. Other times, he struggles. However, you can see him get better and learn more quickly every time he’s in the car.

It feels like if he can just be respectable on those ovals, he can be a real threat in the Cup Series.

Shane van Gisbergen doing everything right in 2024

In the 2024 season, SVG has done everything asked of him. Three wins in the Xfinity Series on road courses, including the Chicago Street Race. He is always a threat on the road courses, no matter which series he is racing in.

Watkins Glen is a winnable race. Daytona, Atlanta and Talladega are winnable. I fear that, even if he is in position with two laps to go at a superspeedway, he will have trouble finding others to push him. SVG is still mostly an unknown entity on the drafting tracks. I believe he could handle aggressive pushes at these tracks, but do his peers?

Trackhouse Racing has put together a great schedule for him this season. During his Cup Series starts this season, things haven’t ended how he planned. But with more coming up, he has a chance to change that around.

Shane van Gisbergen finished P4 at Indianapolis. He had a great run at Pocono going until Sam Mayer ruined his day. Don’t overlook SVG on the superspeedway in either race this weekend. He has a chance to shock many, fans and drivers alike.
