For the time being, Shane van Gisbergen is the hottest name in NASCAR and he has had a lot of messages since his big win. Taking the checkered flag at the Chicago Street Race has likely opened up the door for SVG to make his way to the United States whenever he feels like it.

Van Gisbergen at first said he was under contract through 2024 in Supercars. However, his Triple Eight team principal, Jamie Whincup put that concern to bed. Whincup has already said he will not hold SVG back if the driver wants to head to NASCAR in 2024.

As far as Shane van Gisbergen is concerned, he hasn’t talked to Whincup. So, there’s still more to figure out moving forward. His phone has been blowing up since Sunday’s race, though.

“My phone has been running hot but I don’t have any proper offers yet obviously,” SVG said to the media in Townsville, Queensland, Australia – via V8Sleuth.com. “I really want to keep going and try some more stuff.

As I said, I’m committed to here next year but obviously I read Jamie’s comments which were interesting. I haven’t spoken to Jamie yet though.”

While everyone is still deciding what SVG’s huge Chicago Street Race win means for the sport, the man has more racing to do. Van Gisbergen is still in contention for his fourth Supercars championship.

Whoever is able to grab Shane van Gisbergen in free agency, whenever that is, is going to have one of the hottest new stars to hit NASCAR in years.

Shane van Gisbergen has 2024 greenlight from Supercars boss

Since SVG has a contract for 2024, his Triple Eight team has their own choices to make. It seems that his boss, Jamie Whincup is perfectly fine with his driver heading for NASCAR whenever he wants to.

Even if van Gisbergen wants to ditch next year and go a year early, Whincup won’t get in the way.

“He’s only contractually bound to us for next year,” Whincup told Fox Sports News Monday. “Of course I’m trying to run the business as well as I possibly can and I need the best drivers, but if any driver, engineer, employee came to me and said, ‘Hey, my dream is to go to the other side of the world and do something else’, I’m not going to stand in their way.

“I want to open up opportunities for all my staff. No doubt we’re going to have some discussions in the next month or so and work out what he wants to do. He’s certainly got my praise whatever he wants to do, and we’re going to support him all the way.”

At this point, Shane van Gisbergen has done about all he can in Supercars. So, why not try his hand at winning a Cup Series championship?
