Shane van Gisbergen weighs in on fellow Supercars champion, NASCAR hopeful Brodie Kostecki
While Shane van Gisbergen is coming to America with three Supercars championships, he isn’t the only Australian V8 champion coming stateside. While Brodie Kostecki is sticking around Supercars a while longer, he is going to be back in America in 2024 to race a few NASCAR events.
Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki went head-to-head in the Cup Series earlier this year. Both were in the field for the Indy Road Course. While SVG earned another top-10 finish, it was a learning day for Kostecki. Kostecki got the last laugh though, with a Supercars championship this year over SVG.
However, the latter still has ARCA experience and is fresh off his first Supercars championship ever this season. Not only that, Erebus Motorsport, his Supercars team now has a relationship with Richard Childress Racing.
It is to the point where Childress sees Kostecki as a future Cup driver for the organization.
While talking with V8Sleuth, van Gisbergen gave his opinion on his peer’s talents.
“I think he wants to go [to NASCAR],” SVG said. “I think he wants to do a few more years here, maybe, but he’s definitely good enough to be there.
“You could see glimpses of his brilliance at Indy, and he has experience on ovals. I’m pretty sure he’s doing a few [NASCAR] races next year and I’ll be hoping he goes well.”
Shane van Gisbergen sees nothing but a talented driver in Kostecki.
“Seeing how good he is and how technical he is as a driver and the way he understands what we need… when we race on the simulator, he’s doing all the sim set-ups and stuff.
“He’s very smart with what a car needs and obviously he’s a good driver as well, he works hard at it and the team’s been good this year.”

We may see these two competing multiple times against each other next season in the Cup Series.
Shane van Gisbergen coming to America soon
Once all of the holidays and things are over, Shane van Gisbergen is coming to America. He will likely be working with Trackhouse Racing as early as late December or early January. From there, we will likely get a better idea of what his season will look like.
You would have to think he is going to be entered into all of the road course races for the Cup Series. That means COTA, Sonoma, Chicago, Watkins Glen, and the Charlotte Roval. I wouldn’t be shocked if he was put into some Xfinity Series road course races as well.
What is most important for Shane van Gisbergen – ovals. He has limited experience on ovals. However, a driver of his caliber and one who has multiple disciplines under his belt should be able to adapt.
I believe we will be able to get an idea of his talent in Late Model races and Xfinity Series starts on ovals, if he has any. With his eyes set on going full-time in the Cup Series in 2025, van Gisbergen will have to learn quickly.
