Shannon Sharpe had some issues with the officiating in Saturday’s AFC Wild Card Playoff game between the Houston Texans and LA Chargers. In the first half, Texans quarterback CJ Stroud tried to get rid of the football in his own end zone, but he was between the tackles, according to Sharpe. It would have been a safety. But officials decided otherwise.

After the play, Sharpe took to Twitter to complain about the call.

The Texans throttled the LA Chargers on Saturday, 32-12. Stroud completed 63.2% of his passes this year for 3,727 passing yards, while tossing in 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He’s had to deal with a number of severe injuries to his receivers.

But it’s been a bit of a step back in production to what many people expected of the former Ohio State star. Stroud has been sacked 52 times, so that certainly can’t help and that’s an issue the Texans will absolutely need to address in the offseason.

Expectations were higher coming off a surprise playoff appearance in 2023, in which Stroud took home AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

With the win on Saturday, Stroud and the Texans will be headed to the AFC Divisional Round, where they’ll face off against the Kansas City Chiefs. Stroud completed 66.7% of his passes on Saturday for 282 passing yards, while tossing in one touchdown with one interception. He was sacked three times. As a runner, he had six carries for 42 rushing yards.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, and they’ve won back-to-back Super Bowls. They’re aiming for three-straight and as usual, the team to beat in the NFL Playoffs. The Chiefs beat the Texans in Week 16, 27-19.

In one of the other Wild Card matchups, the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-14. The Ravens will advance to play the winner of the Broncos and Bills matchup.
