Thieves broke into Shannon Sharpe’s home last week and stole $1 million worth of items while the former NFL star was out having dinner with friends.

TMZ Sports reported the news, Friday. And Sharpe is offering a $50,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators. He told police he was missing jewelry and designer bags worth at least $1 million.

The incident occurred on May 19. Sharpe told police he left his Los Angeles-area home from 7 to 9:30 p.m. to have dinner. The LA police said Sharpe noticed that something seemed amiss at his house when he returned. That’s when he started looking for some of the missing items. Here’s the weird detail. Police could find no obvious signs of a break-in. So the investigation is ongoing. And as of Friday, police have yet to arrest any suspects.

Sharpe hosts the talk show “Undisputed” with Skip Bayless each day on Fox Sports 1. He hasn’t missed any work this week. And Shannon Sharpe also has company in the victim department. Thieves like to target athletes.

Last month, thieves broke into the Houston home of Jose Altuve. The robbery unfolded as the then-injured Astros all-star sat in the dugout at Minute Maid Park watching his team on Opening Day of Major League Baseball. Police say one of the four robbers moved a plant on the back porch and slipped in through a window. They stole $1 million in jewelry including 13 watches, one of which was valued at $430,000.

Last September an Atlanta prosecutor announced a 220-count indictment for members of a street gang who targeted the homes of the city’s athletes and other celebrities. Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley was one of the victims. Ridley, at the time, played for the Falcons. The prosecutor said the gang members sifted through social media posts to find high-profile people who share photos of their high-end belongings.

The indictment said that other victims included pop superstar Mariah Carey, soccer goalie Brad Guzan and Marlo Hampton, a cast member of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

And there are more examples. In February 2022, NBA star Draymond Green was attending the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles as thieves broke into his home. They stole at least $1 million in jewelry and other items. Police say the burglars entered the home through a window.

Shannon Sharpe and the others are lucky to some extent. Former Alabama running back Brian Robinson was shot twice last August by two teenagers who wanted to rob him. He was able to play in a dozen games last fall.
