Shannon Sharpe admits viral NSFW Instagram Live incident was an accident, not hacked
After an NSFW Instagram Live, Shannon Sharpe said he was hacked. The video quickly made its way around social media, and Sharpe said his team was “working vigorously” to find out what happened.
Wednesday night, on his “Club Shay Shay” Nightcap with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Sharpe further addressed what happened. He reversed course and said he wasn’t hacked. He said it was him “being a healthy, active male.”
Sharpe said he was “embarrassed” by the situation because he prides himself as a professional at all times. He also confirmed it was not “staged,” as some have said.
“Obviously, I’m embarrassed,” Sharpe said. “Someone that is extremely, extremely private, and to have one of your most intimate details, the audio heard for the entire world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons. People count on Shannon. There are a lot of people that count on Shannon to be professional at all times, and I always try to be professional at all times.

“Even when I’m behind closed doors, I still try to remain a level of professional, although I’m in the privacy of my own home, and I’m very disappointed in myself. Not for the act. I think there are millions, billions of people, consenting age that engage in activities, but to have your most intimate detail, the audio to be heard, I’m disappointed in myself. … But guys, this was not staged. I came in, threw phone on the bed, engaged in an activity. I did not know IG live, I’ve never been on IG live, I’ve never turned IG live on. So I don’t know how it works.”

Shannon Sharpe: ‘My heart sank’ when he learned of IG Live
Sharpe said he saw his phone ringing and Jamie Foxx was the one to tell him he was live on Instagram. He added he didn’t know anyone could live-stream there, but Foxx told him what was going on. That’s when he started to make calls.
“And so, all of a sudden my other phone is going off,” Sharpe said. “And people are calling me (on) FaceTime that I’ve never talked to a day in my life on FaceTime, and it didn’t — I’m like, ‘Why are y’all calling me FaceTime? And after a while, Jamie, he says, ‘Shannon, you on IG live.’ I’m like, ‘Doing what?’ You know? What am I on IG live for? I ain’t hit no IG live button. He says, uh, they can hear.
“So now, I’m like– so now, Ocho, you know I say, ask for patience. He said, they can hear. And now I’m starting to get agitated again because you call me and say I’m on IG live when I know I didn’t flick myself on IG live. And he said, they can hear me. I said, ‘Hear me doing what?’ He says, it sounds like you were having sex. Man, my heart sank. It dropped. … I called my agents, the agency, I called ESPN, I was like, got to tell them the truth. I said, I just got to tell them the truth. My phone wasn’t hacked. It wasn’t a prank. It was me being a healthy, active male.”
Shannon Sharpe, the Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end, joined the network last year after a seven-year run at FOX Sports as co-host of Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless. That ended last year when Sharpe made the move to ESPN to make weekly appearances on First Take with Stephen A. Smith. ESPN gave him a new multi-year contract earlier this year to expand his role on the show.
