Shedeur Sanders has surprising reaction to Deion Sanders, Cowboys head coach rumblings
With the Dallas Cowboys head coaching role open, Deion Sanders has become a popular name. Reports indicate that Sanders has had conversations with Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones on the subject. He even put out a statement on the matter, reaffirming his love for Colorado and the surrounding community.
But what do those closest to Sanders think about him taking over in Dallas? His son, Shedeur Sanders was asked during Tuesday’s Dallas Mavericks game against the Denver Nuggets. The future NFL Draft gave a quick but surprising reaction.
“I think it would be cool,” Shedeur Sanders told the Dallas Morning News.
Deion Sanders has a longstanding relationship with Jones, dating back to his playing days. It’s continued throughout the years and could now play a huge role in Dallas’ coaching search. ESPN’s Marcus Spears, another former Cowboys player, suggests Sanders may be able to take some control away from Jones.
“Here’s the caveat about Prime,” Spears began. “As much as you and I have talked over the years about Jerry and him not relinquishing power or control, Prime may be one guy that can at least go to the office and say ‘Jerry let’s try it my way’ because of the respect that I think Jerry has for Deion Sanders.”
More than just the Cowboys have been linked to Sanders coaching at the next level. For a brief moment, his name was included in the Las Vegas Raiders job. They are a team potentially looking into drafting Shedeur too, currently slated at No. 6 in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The buzz around Las Vegas hiring him has since died down.
Just around a week ago, Sanders said he would consider leaving for the NFL if an opportunity to coach his sons presented itself. Not just Shedeur but Shilo as well, who is also about to go through the draft process.
“The only way I would consider, is to coach my sons,” he told Good Morning America. “Not son. Sons.”
Well, Shedeur certainly thinks seeing his father coach in Dallas would be “cool.” Getting the quarterback to the Cowboys would be tough for multiple reasons if that would be a requirement for Coach Prime.
It’s still early in the process though, with Jones just getting his search to replace Mike McCarthy underway.
