Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald reveals Adam Sandler has script for 'Happy Gilmore 2'

28 years ago, “Happy Gilmore” hit theaters around the world for the very first time.
And now, it seems we might be getting a long-awaited sequel. Christopher McDonald, who plays Shooter McGavin in the golf film, revealed on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan Friday that he recently came across a script for “Happy Gilmore 2.”
According to McDonald, it was Adam Sandler, who portrays Happy Gilmore in the film, who presented him with the script.
“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this.’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How ’bout that,’ [and] he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2,'” McDonald said. “Maybe you should cut that out because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit.”
Happy Gilmore stands as one of Adam Sandler’s finest performances
To this day, “Happy Gilmore” holds up as one of the most iconic sports movies of all-time. With a budget of just $12 million, the film grossed $41.2 million at the box office worldwide. A whopping $38.8 million of that figure came from box office sales in North America.

As the script goes, Gilmore is an unsuccessful hockey player whose grandmother has her house repossessed due to owing the IRS $270,000 in taxes. Needing to make the money back in 90 days, Gilmore discovers he has a talent for the game of golf, and subsequently earns a spot on the pro tour. His eccentric personality clashes with that of McGavin, a golf tradionalist who is chasing his first green jacket, rewarded to the tour champion.
After several unsuccessful attempts at looking to get Gilmore kicked off tour, McGavin outbids Gilmore to buy his grandmother’s house. He offers to give the house back if Gilmore leaves the tour. Gilmore comes up with a bet, that if he beats McGavin for the tour championship, he gets the house back. Gilmore does indeed beat McGavin, winning the tour championship and getting his grandmother’s house back.
What will “Happy Gilmore 2” have in store? I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.
