Simone Biles, Suni Lee secure gold, bronze medals with incredible performances in women’s gymnastics all-around finals
Simone Biles has won the Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Individual All Around gold medal. Just behind her was Rebeca Andrade with a silver medal and Suni Lee with bronze.
Biles finished with a final score of 59.131 on the night, combining her scores from the vault, floor, beam, and uneven bars. Andrade had a score of 57.932 while Lee had a score of 56.465.

Coming into the night, the three big names to watch were Simone Biles, Rebeca Andrade, and Suni Lee. In particular, Biles and Lee of the United States were the winners of the Individual All Around in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics respectively. Meanwhile, Andrade of Brazil has consistently challenged Biles on the biggest stages internationally.
In the case of all three favorites, they’d overcome plenty of adversity to get to this point. Simone Biles famously battled the”Twisties” in Tokyo. Lee, meanwhile, has overcome medical issues relating to her kidneys. Then, Andrade has suffered multiple ACL injuries and overcome them to get to the highest stage again.
It was a hot start for both Biles and Andrade on the vault, which is one of their strongest events. In that, Biles scored a massive 15.766 while Andrade hit with a 15.1 on the event. However, Biles went on to struggle with the uneven bars, only putting up a 13.733 to Andrade’s 14.666 and the race for gold was on.
At that point, Alice D’Amato of Italy and Kaylia Nemour of Algeria also had strong performances that made it a highly competitive field at the top. Suni Lee, meanwhile, put up a huge routine on bars to stay in the conversation, with a 14.866.
Next up was the beam, where Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade both had excellent performances. That set up a showdown for gold on the floor, which both Biles and Andrade consider to be their best event in the All Around. At the same time, there’d be a race for the bronze with all five gymnasts in play for a podium.
On the floor, Lee, Andrade, and Biles were the final three to go. Lee knew she needed a 13.535 to pass D’Amato for podium position. She did exactly that with a 13.66 to guarantee a medal.
From there, Andrade was up, coming into the final rotation in second place. However, she made an early mistake stepping out of bounds that she had to bounce back from, which she was more than able to do. She had a 14.033, landing her on the podium. That meant it was Biles’ turn to hit and she nailed her floor routine. In the end, it was a 15.066 for Biles on floor.
The United States of America was led in the Team All Around to a gold medal by Simone Biles, Suni Lee, and Jordan Chiles. Jade Carey contributed on the vault in that win while Hezly Rivera rounded out the team. Despite competing in every event during the Team All Around, Chiles was not able to compete in the Individual All Around, as every country can only advance two gymnasts.
Brazil, led by Rebeca Andrade, won the bronze in the Team All Around. That was Brazil’s first ever medal of any kind in that event.
Coming into the Individual All Around, Simone Biles was looking to once again establish herself as the best gymnast in the world. Her medal here was her ninth in the Olympics over the years.
