Skip Bayless calls out Jerry Jones ahead of NFL trade deadline
The Philadelphia Eagles are making aggressive moves near the trade deadline, which has notorious Cowboys fan Skip Bayless irate that his team isn’t doing the same.
Bayless’ beef starts and ends with Jerry Jones, who obviously has final say on player transactions since he’s the owner of the team. And this week, when asked about potential deadline deals, the longtime Dallas owner said the team would sit pat unless an intriguing opportunity came to them.
“The initiation of an opportunity to make a trade at this time that would help us principally has to start over on the other end… I like where we are with our personnel today,” said Jones on 105.3 The Fan.
In light of those comments, Bayless explained on Undisputed this week why Jones’ arrogant attitude in this situation explains the franchise’s shortcomings for the entire century.
“His message to everybody every time he speaks: ‘We’re the Cowboys and you’re not. I’m Jerry Jones and you’re not.’ But speaking of not, my team has not been to the NFC Championship game in 27 years because of that attitude, because of that Holier Than Thou, because of that ‘we’re better than all of you’ — because, we’re not.
“We have nothing to show for it. For 27 years, we haven’t sniffed a Super Bowl because we haven’t even been to a championship game since Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman made that one at the end of the 1995 season.”
Bayless juxtaposed Jerry Jones’ trade deadline attitude with that of fellow NFC East club and rival Philadelphia, who just nabbed a solid safety ahead of the deadline in Kevin Byard.

“What’s important is: when your arch-rival within the division keeps going out and getting difference-makers — to me, Kevin Byard is a difference-maker.”
Bayless noted that in Byard’s last performance against the Cowboys, when he was a member of the Titans last season, he picked off Dak Prescott not once but twice. So it’s infuriating to him that Philly went out and grabbed that kind of dude while the Cowboys are sitting idly.
“These are difference-makers and you’re sending a message to the Eagles locker room: ‘We are all in. We are serious business. We are going to go win the Super Bowl that we think we should have won a year ago.'”
Meanwhile, Skip Bayless believes the Fall of Rome is repeating itself within the Cowboys organization. “And Jerry is like Nero, he’s going to fiddle while Rome burns around him.”
