Skip Bayless says he and Shannon Sharpe were 'kind of a married couple' following 'Undisputed' breakup
Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless spent a few hours each week day together the last few years. It definitely was a relationship, albeit a dysfunctional one with lots of arguing. Bayless recently referred to them as “kind of a married couple.”
And this kind of a marriage ended with a separation this past Tuesday as Shannon Sharpe bid farewell to Skip Bayless and Undisputed, the sports chat show on FS1. Sharpe, the Hall of Famer, says he doesn’t have another gig lined up. It was just time to split up with Bayless (in keeping the marriage analogy going).
In saying farewell, a weapy Sharpe said: “Skip Bayless, you fought for me, bro. I’m here because of you. You allowed me to share the stage with you. You allowed me to share the platform. I’m gonna cry in the car, but I’m not gonna cry now. The opportunity that you gave me to become what I became, I’m forever indebted to you, I’ll never forget what you did for me. You helped me grow, more than you’ll ever know.”

Skip Bayless talked more about Shannon Sharpe in his podcast. Of course, he had to loop in LeBron James. That’s when he also mentioned marriage and how Sharpe doesn’t “bleed metallic blue.”

First, Bayless was serious in some of his remarks. “In a way, Shannon and I were kind of a married couple on TV. I did not watch a single game of any sport in any magnitude for seven years without thinking about what Shannon was thinking about the outcome of said game and how that outcome would impact tomorrow’s Undisputed.”
Then Bayless went with silly elbows. “The biggest advantage Shannon brought to FS1 and to Undisputed was he truly, genuinely, authentically loves LeBron James. He honestly and completely and wholeheartedly believes LeBron is the GOAT, eclipsing even Michael Jordan. That of course is insane. LeBron is obviously nothing more than the phony GOAT. But, because Shannon so believed that LeBron was the best ever, he and I had TV gold.”
Of course, Bayless leaned into his own love for the Dallas Cowboys.
“My other advantage with Shannon was that like most people who don’t bleed metallic blue as I do, he absolutely despises all things Dallas Cowboys,” Bayless said. “Once again, we had an extremely natural disagreement…I have no objectivity and sometimes no sense when it comes to my Dallas Cowboys…I’m going to miss my Cowboys displays with Shannon.”
Yep, it does sound like a marriage on the decline, but one with a no-fault divorce.
