Snoop Dogg fires jab at Chiefs, referees in NFL Honors monologue
In the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX, the referees were a big topic of conversation. Much has been made about apparent favorable whistles for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Snoop Dogg made sure to fire a jab to start the NFL Honors ceremony.
At the beginning of his monologue, Snoop Dogg expressed his excitement for Sunday’s game at Caesars Superdome. The Chiefs will take on the Eagles, although an officiating joke was there for the taking.
“Is anybody excited for the big game on Sunday?” Snoop Dogg said. “Look, I know I’m excited. This is an incredible Super Bowl matchup between the Eagles, and the refs.”
Throughout the playoffs, people questioned the officiating in Chiefs game. That includes Houston Texans standout Will Anderson and head coach DeMeco Ryans after the AFC Divisional Round, and the criticism grew louder after the AFC Championship.
The referees also drew scrutiny in the AFC Championship. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen tried a quarterback sneak for a first down, but the referees deemed him short. After a review, the call on the field stood, although the spot was still in question. That play then set up a Chiefs touchdown which proved to be the difference in the 29-22 victory.
Allen was in attendance for Thursday’s ceremony, and Snoop Dogg saw another opportunity to point out the Chiefs-refs jokes. He offered to help him out next time he goes up against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

“Hey, Josh. Damn, the Patrick Mahomes curse,” Snoop Dogg said. “But look, don’t worry, Josh. I know some people that know some people that got the hookup with the men in stripes. So holler at me, and I’ll take care of you.”
The NFL Referees Association also released a statement about people alleging the officials are helping the chiefs. Executive director Scott Green agreed with commissioner Roger Goodell’s assessment of the “ridiculous” accusations.
“Commissioner Goodell’s comments that it is ‘ridiculous’ to presume that NFL Officials are not doing everything possible to make the right call on every play is spot on,” Green said. “Officiating crews do not work the same team more than twice each regular season. It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team.
“There are many things that fans can worry about over a 17-game season, such as coaching decisions, player injuries, the weather and, yes, even close calls on incredible plays made by incredible athletes. But you can rest assured that on every single down, NFL Officials, both on the field and in the replay booth, are doing everything humanly possible to officiate every play correctly.”
