Spencer Rattler breaks down performance at South Carolina Pro Day
South Carolina hosted its annual Pro Day for NFL scouts on Tuesday, with all eyes centering on quarterback Spencer Rattler.
Rattler is considered one of the top draft-eligible prospects out of South Carolina this cycle following a bit of an up-and-down career at the college level. But he felt his Pro Day offered a nice window into his abilities for professional teams.
“I feel like it was very successful,” Rattler said on the SEC Network. “The guys showed up, we put in the work these last few days and obviously these last eight weeks leading up to this. So we knew this was the finale of the circuit of the Combine, NFL prep, so we just wanted to put on. Guys made great catches today, ran great routes and I feel like we had great chemistry out here today.”
The talented gunslinger also participated in the NFL Combine, where he was able to show off his arm for scouts. But he said the Pro Day was a little bit different.
It allowed him the chance to go through even more throws, displaying the arm that makes him a coveted candidate for a draft pick.
“The Combine just obviously a lot different,” Spencer Rattler said. “You don’t have as many throws, just a set number of throws, but obviously same type of mindset. You want to attack it, you want to be clean, you want to have good feet and be accurate. That was the mindset coming out here today and it felt like we did a good job of that.”
What he was primarily trying to convey to NFL teams is that his game is always a work in progress.
“I think, I tell every team I meet with, I’m not getting stagnant in any area,” Spencer Rattler said. “I want to keep attacking every area of my game. They love that. I just don’t want to get complacent in any area. I feel like I’m a good player, great player, but got a long ways to go, as a lot of us. So we’re not going to stop working and especially going to this next level want to soak in as much knowledge as I can and keep rolling.”

One of the main drawbacks for Rattler as a draft prospect is that he didn’t have more success at the college level. With quarterbacks expected to elevate the play around them, you like to see a team take a big forward step under a truly great quarterback.
South Carolina won only five games this fall.
“We had a lot of adversity as a group this year, a lot of unfortunate injuries, guys banged up,” Spencer Rattler explained. “A lot of young guys in positions for the first time ever. But they fought, we never gave up, so I was proud of my group, my team. It was tough, but every time I get hit I get right back up and that motivates the guys around me to keep going and vice versa with everybody else. Proud of how we fought. We didn’t get as many wins as we wanted but coach (Shane) Beamer and the guys have it headed in the right direction.”
Despite the lack of success during the 2023 season, Rattler thinks the work that he put in over the last two years, coupled with the hustle of the coaches and the rest of his teammates, has the program set to take a big jump forward.
It’s why he loved playing for South Carolina.
“I just think the culture, the passion of the fanbase here every Saturday,” he said. “I mean every week throughout the season and even offseason, just the hype built up around it was so fun. The love out here is genuine, and just playing there with my teammates every Saturday, going through the week throughout practice with the grind, awesome two years here.”
