Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt is making a move. He is leaving the NASCAR organization for a new job at TWG Group. TWG is a massive organization with its hands in motorsports all over the globe.

Doug Duchardt will now be the chief performance officer of motorsports, according to Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press. Duchardt has worked with GM in the past. GM is now partnered with TWG Global to put a Cadillac team in Formula One.

TWG Global is also in charge of the former Andretti properties. Duchardt is making a move from Spire, which is owned by TWG, to a role that will likely include oversight on multiple forms of motorsport.

By 2026, TWG will have a team in NASCAR (Spire), IndyCar (Andretti), IMSA (Wayne Taylor Racing), and F1 (Cadillac). That’s pretty much got it covered.

Michael Andretti has taken a step back from operations. Something that has apparently pleased many and allowed for the FIA to accept the Cadillac team for 2026.

Jeff Dickerson will remain at Spire Motorsports. Replacing Duchardt will be the pair of Bill Anthony, Spire’s executive VP, and Todd Mackin. Mackin is the president of Spire Holdings at this time. Official announcements are expected to happen next week.

During the last few years, Spire Motorsports has made major moves. It was clear last year when they bought a third charter that there was more money than many thought behind the scenes.

Spire Motorsports continues to make moves

All of the shuffling and hiring and firing and reshuffling – Spire Motorsports has not stopped since 2022. This year was perhaps their most extreme change of all. Corey LaJoie was let go from the team after serving as the face for three years.

Spire also happened to have the Rookie of the Year. Next season, Justin Haley, Michael McDowell, and Carson Hocevar will drive for Spire in the Cup Series. Arguably a very strong upgrade from LaJoie and Zane Smith.

So, here is where I get a little crazy. This is just speculation and not based on any information. However, isn’t it interesting how close TWG Global is to Cadillac? General Motors just scrapped the Camaro branding on NASCAR Chevrolet racecars. What is GM brought the luxury brand to stock car racing?

While that is unlikely to happen for many reasons, it is fun to talk about in the offseason. Spire Motorsports is making huge moves and it won’t be shocking to see them as big players in the Cup Series if the money keeps flowing.
