‘Stand up guy’ Chase Elliott returns 23XI paper to Denny Hamlin after pit crew mistake
At the end of the day, the NASCAR garage is one big happy family. Chase Elliott helped out Denny Hamlin and 23XI Racing big time today. Hamlin’s team had lost a fairly important slip of paper during qualifying out on pit road.
Good news, Chase Elliott returned the paper. He made sure to hand deliver it straight to Denny Hamlin. In a sport where everyone is looking for an upper hand, returning that paper is a great move from Elliott.
Toyota and Chevy are in a tight battle. Tyler Reddick is only 15 points from Elliott for the regular season championship. Elliott made the sportsmanship move and returned the paper.
“Man, a stand-up guy. I guess one of the 23XI guys dropped a piece of paper out of their pocket that had some information on it,” Hamlin said laughing. “Handed it to me to give to those guys.”
These two would be battling for the pole award minutes after this exchange. Two competitors who clearly respect one another. Gives you the sense that Chase Elliott isn’t looking for any shortcuts as he tries to win his first Brickyard 400.
While Elliott and Hamlin both made the final round of qualifying, it would be 23XI Racing who got the last laugh.

Tyler Reddick bests Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin for pole
A huge lap from Tyler Reddick as he picks up his eighth career pole. He will lead the Brickyard 400 to green on Sunday. Reddick has a Cup Series win on the Indy Road Course, why not get one on the big track?
Tyler Reddick was able to beat out Chase Elliott for the pole. With NASCAR’s strange new qualifying format, Elliott went from P1 to P3, on the inside of the second row.
This is a major pole for Reddick. It is Indy, the oval, and he has a shot at adding a Brickyard 400 win to his record, a crown jewel!
Tyler Reddick is going to lead the field to green on Sunday. He is strong on these big tracks. Indianapolis is a beast all its own. With Reddick having kissed the bricks once, I’m sure doing it again in the crown jewel version of this race will be like his first time all over again.
