In Stanford’s first year in the ACC, Louisville is one of several teams heading west for the inaugural league matchup against the Cardinal. And even playing on the road, the Cardinals are favored over their hosts.

Louisville opened as 19.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under point total is set at 57.5.

And while the College Football Playoff might be a bridge too far, Louisville still has bowl placement to play for, among other goals.

And while Louisville should be the comfortable favorite in this game, it’s been playing without top receiver Caullin Lacy for the remainder of the season, as he decided to redshirt.

One of the top transfer additions this offseason for Louisville, Lacy appeared in just four games this season because of an injury to start and now a decision to redshirt as of last week. Now, the Cardinals are doing their best to support him in that while some, including the head coach, don’t agree with it.

Head coach Jeff Brohm addressed Lacy’s circumstances with the media in late October. He said he did not agree with the wide receiver on it as it wasn’t good for the football team. Still, their program wants to keep the players in mind in what they feel is right for them.

“Well, with Caullin, you know, we support all of the decisions that our players make, that they think is best for them,” said Brohm. “You know, I was not in agreement with the decision. It was not best for our football team but I understand where he’s coming from.”

“We definitely want to do what’s best for all of our players and always will do that. I do think we’re not as good of a team without him but, at the same time, we’re going to support him with whatever he wants us to help him with,” Brohm continued.

This would conflict with the statement from Lacy’s agent to On3’s Pete Nakos. In that message, he said that it “was a decision that was agreed upon between both parties”.

It’s that much more of a loss too since he’d just been adjusting into the offense for the last month.

“You know, Caullin was a really good player for us,” Brohm added. He was just getting fully healthy.”
