Steelers elevate linebacker Kyron Johnson for Sunday's Cardinals game

The Steelers promoted Kyron Johnson from the practice squad to give them depth at linebacker for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

Pittsburgh signed Johnson back in October. The former Kansas Jayhawk is in his second season in the NFL. The Eagles selected him in the sixth round of the 2022 draft. And he played in 16 games for the Eagles, primarily on special teams. He has yet to play this season for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh already has lost linebackers Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander for the season.

Meanwhile, the Steelers are getting back the services of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and possibly defensive lineman Montravius Adams. Coach Mike Tomlin indicated that both would be back at practice this past week.

Tomlin said he was “cautiously optimistic about both.” When the Steelers released their final injury report of the week, Fitzpatrick (hamstring) didn’t have a game status designation. Adams (ankle) was questionable. He’s the only questionable on the list.

Fitzpatrick, the former Dolphins first rounder from Alabama, is a three-time All-Pro. He’s missed the past four games with a hamstring injury. In fact, since his injury, he hadn’t practiced until this week. Adams couldn’t play in the last three games.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett also has no injury designation for Sunday. Tomlin said he was on the injury report because of ankle soreness. But he went through three full practices.
