Steelers GM Omar Khan: 'Nothing going on' involving potential WR trades
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy rebuilding their receiver room this offseason, and they may not be done as several veteran options could be on the trade market.
But while Pittsburgh has been linked with the likes of San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk among others, general manager Omar Khan said Thursday that nothing is currently in the works.
“There’s nothing going on right now,” Khan said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I guess I’ll just say if there’s an opportunity to have a discussion on somebody that’s out there, somebody that’s cut — not necessarily traded — we’ll look at it. But I assure you our focus is on these 90 guys right now.”
Asked specifically about Aiyuk, who is staging a hold-in during training camp due to his contact status, Khan said he hasn’t had any conversations with the 49ers.
“I can tell you amongst the 32 GMs we all talk, we all have conversations, but believe it or not, it’s still early in the process here,” Khan said.

Steelers have plethora of options at receiver as training camp begins
The Steelers currently have a logjam at the receiver position, but no clear No. 2 option next to George Pickens. Pittsburgh notably traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers and released Allen Robinson earlier this offseason. In addition to Pickens, Pittsburgh has Roman Wilson, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, Scotty Miller, Calvin Austin III and Marquez Callaway all in the mix.
Khan added if something makes sense, he’ll pursue it. If it doesn’t, he won’t.
“Obviously, you’re going to use this time to evaluate the whole roster — not just that [receiver] room,” Khan said. “We’re always going to have conversations with people. If there’s an opportunity to evaluate a situation or player that’s out there, that’s what we’ll do. We’ll think about it. If it makes sense, we’ll pursue it. If not, then we won’t.”
New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said last month he’s excited about the Steelers’ depth at the skill positions.
“We’ve got a lot of guys that can play multiple spots,” Smith said. “Whether it’s our tight ends or we have some receivers that give position flexibility. I really like the depth we’ve got up front right now. Obviously at the quarterback position, really the whole room is new. It gives you a lot of options. These guys, you know, have experience. Russ [Wilson] and Justin [Fields] and even Kyle [Allen] are guys who have played meaningful snaps in this league, so it’s been fun.”
